Summary
The year is 1942, and this story was filmed at great risk by cameraman Gaston Madru. The camera was sometimes concealed in a basket on the front of his bicycle, and elsewhere. Tracking shots in the streets of Paris show German signs in the streets. French people in bread queue. At Longchamps racecourse German officers are seen in the paddock. The French Ambassador and collaborator Debrinon attends a German ceremony at the Invalides Palace in 1943, also present among the German and French officers were fascist Marcel Deat and Comt de Chambrun, Laval’s son-in-law. Some wounded and repatriated POWs from Germany arrive in Paris. Interior. City Hall the first ceremony of the 3rd French Republic. Laval arrives at the Gare du Nord after one of his visits to Germany. Germans parade at the Unknown Warriors Tomb, Arc de Triomphe but this final indignity is too much for the French people and disturbances break out. At other ceremonies Laval militiamen are seen. Next we see film of the RAF raid on the Renault works in March 1942. Madru is also there to see the Germans in their retreat (1944) from Paris, also some of the street fighting which took place when the Maqui came out of hiding, then the welcoming crowds as the allies enter Paris.
