History
Unilever Magazine was a public relations tool designed to show the ‘different parts of a uniquely varied industrial group.' These ‘closely packed’ reviews of the company’s activities included stories ranging from canning fruit to trick photography, the construction of a new soap tower at Bristol and an underwater farm. Initially each issue lasted around twelve minutes but this was soon extended to twenty minutes. In 1957 the company advertised compilations of single magazine stories along particular themes due to increasing demand, particularly for educational purposes. Nine issues were made periodically between 1950 and 1956, although the original intention was to produce it on a quarterly basis.
