Alan Haythorne

Alan Haythorne was a cutter with Movietone. Terry Gallacher [qv], who joined Movietone in October 1945, recalled that Haythorne ‘specialised, with Greville Kent [qv], in editing special news items for individual territories within the United Kingdom.' Haythorn is credited as a cutter in Movietone documents from February 1951, and he appears in the Movietone staff list for October 1951. However, the demand for local releases was not great, and Haythorne’s main job was to assist the make-up editor Tommy Scales [qv]. Haythorne would compile documentation for the screening of cameramen’s negatives, liaise with the laboratories, and produce library cards for the cut stories. Haythorne was one of several Movietone staff members who left in 1955 to join ITN.
