George T. Evans

Terry Gallacher [qv], who joined Movietone in October 1945, recalled George Evans as a projectionist working under the company’s chief projectionist, Jack Cross. Evans later transferred to the sound department as a sound recordist, and in July 1948 was shown carrying equipment out of the company’s fire-damaged offices in ‘MOVIETONE SERVICE AS USUAL’ in No.997. Evans was first credited on ‘THE SURRENDER STONE’ in British Movietone News No.1539A of December 1958 - the first of a series of surviving credits which includes ‘SIR WINSTON - THE WORLD MOURNS’ in No.1860A of January 1965. Evans’ last credit was for ‘FAIRS OLD AND NEW’ in British Movietone News No.2089 of June 1969, and according to Gallacher he died soon afterwards.
