Career
Ian Grant was in the Army Film Unit from 1944 onwards. He was mostly attached to armour formations and covered D-Day, the liberation of many cities in occupied Europe, and the crossings of the Seine and the Rhine. He was the first man to film Belsen concentration camp. After the war Grant worked for Independent Television News, before joining Movietone early in 1962. Grant’s first Movietone credit is for ‘DESIGN FOR LIVING’ in British Movietone News No.1709A of March 1962. He was employed on domestic news stories, but his final credit is for ‘TEST FOR TOKYO HOPES’ in No.1841 of September 1964, Peter hampton [qv] recalling that his work was unsatisfactory and that he was eventually fired by Movietone. Grant ended up working as a freelance cameraman.
