The European Children’s Film Network is a database service offered by ECFA (European Children’s Film Association). The databases are intended as sources of information on European high-quality films for children and young people in order to help to improve their distribution and the marketing. The website was started in 1999, covering most films for children that were produced in European countries since that year, including some films that were produced a few years earlier, but appeared at festivals or in distributions in 1999 or later. The database gives title (and titles in other languages), production country, running time, director, synopsis and festivals where it has been screened.

The national Dutch film centre for film culture and heritage has a broad mission, covering film education, supporting the industry, film restoration, promotion and marketing. To open up its collections to as wide an audience as possible it has an ongoing digitisation programme. The Scene Machine aims to let the viewer explore the archive in an intuitive way, presenting film fragments clustered around themes and keywords, which can then be juxtaposed, filtered, combined and saved. It’s an interesting approach which aims to encourage a more interactive approach to the material without sacrificing the films’ archival and historical importance.
