    Founded in 2005, The Resolution Foundation is an award-winning thinktank that conducts authoritative analytical research on living standards in the UK. The website offers free access to reports and statistical data, which could be used as educational resources by students and lecturers of socioeconomics.     Academic Video Online: Premium is the largest and most comprehensive video subscription available to libraries. It delivers more than 50,000 video titles spanning all academic subject areas including anthropology, business, counselling, film, health, history, music, and more. More than 12,000 titles are exclusive to Alexander Street. From Jan 1 2016, it includes the new “AVON-to-Own” feature, where subscribing libraries receive perpetual rights to videos they select at the end of each annual term commensurate with the amount of the subscription, using an entire year of usage data to support selections. Subscribing libraries also receive Alexander Street’s Media Hosting Service at no charge.

    The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organisation in the United States in Alzheimer care, support and research. The Videos and Media pages of the site stream several videotapes outlining latest research in areas such as advances in brain imaging, mild cognitive impairment research, Alzheimer’s and genetics and the role of insulin. In addition to the research videos the Media Clips pages host short, informative clips on a variety of topics of interest to the dementia caregiver, persons with early stage dementia, family members, and professionals.

    Mental Health TV is a resource producing educational programmes for students, junior doctors, health workers and the general public. The site was established and funded by Dr Andrew Macaulay. The site claims that it is the only public service internet broadcaster dedicated to providing video information for common mental health problems for students, patients and their families and CPD modules for professionals. The website delivers a wide range of programmes on a pay-per-view and contract basis; some are free or sponsored. Topics covered include anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia and eating disorders.

    The Counselling Channel produces films on all aspects of counselling and counselling training. Using the expertise of counsellors, psychotherapists and film-makers the focus is on how counselling can be used to address life’s challenges and promote good mental health. The short clips are are streamed on YouTube. Issues covered include compromise, addiction counselling, and balancing work and family life. The Channel is sponsored by CPCAB, the only awarding body run by counsellors for counsellors.

Users can narrow their search by four broad categories: Arts and Humanities, Formal Sciences, Natural Sciences, Professional and Social Sciences. Amongst the disciplines currently represented on the site are Architecture, History, Philosophy, Sociology, Finance, Fashion, Film Studies, Management and Planetary Sciences. All content is free to view but there are various Licensing options for use of the content beyond the platform. A simple idea, well executed.

This American site features thousands of films, videos, news items, and articles relating to social, environmental, and media issues not covered by the mainstream news.     This beta site presents the entire range of podcasts produced by the Open University. The site is divided into three sections: OU Learn, OU Research and OU Life. The OU Learn podcasts are divided into fourteen subject areas from Arts and Humanities to Social Sciences. Within each subject area, the podcasts are further arranged as ‘albums’ consisting of numbered tracks, containing material relevant to OU courses. The podcasts come with transcripts, related links and often feature video material too. Users can subscribe via RSS feed, iTunes, or Miro.

    This resource is produced by The Social Institute for Excellence and intended for everyone involved in social care and social work. It covers, adult, children and family issues. Users can view the latest videos, or search by keyword or topic. All the videos are free to view and can also be downloaded for free. The resource is aimed at all those who wish to learn about social care: students, lecturers, trainers and managers, as well as carers and interested members of the public.
    Among the issues covered are: support for carers, child care, mental health, children of prisoners, autism and telecare. There is also a small selection of videos on social work as a career.

    Older films are available as .WMV files (for use with Windows media player) and .MOV files (for use with in Quick Time and iTunes). Newer films are available in MP4 format which should work on all devices. The site also includes links to other useful resources, government policy and related organisations.
