Part of Connected Histories of the BBC, 100 Voices reveals the inside story of the BBC and its relationship with the wider world since its inception in 1922. The project, led by the University of Sussex, aims to make accessible the vast collection of interviews the BBC has conducted over the years with its own staff: from senior managers to popular on-screen personalities, pioneering editors of political programmes and influential producers. Material available so far has been curated into several themes including Pioneering Women, People, Nation, Empire, Radio Reinvented, The Birth of TV, Elections and BBC Memories.

An excellent selection of films made over the last years of Queen Victoria’s reign which show how filmmaking was transformed from the pursuit of a handful of showmen, chemists and amateur enthusiasts into a dynamic industry, and from fairground novelty into the greatest entertainment of the age. Founded in 2012, this arts agency supports and represents moving image practice in New Zelaland. The online resource streams over 700 videos by some 100 New Zealand artists. The collection is searchable by artist, title, year and keyword. Extensive clips of the works are available online for research and study purposes. The site also presents a fortnightly podcast hosted by Mark Amery, who is joined by local guest curators, writers and artists to dissect recent exhibitions and events in the world of local and international moving image. The podcast was launched in 2013, and the archive now contains over 80 programmes of approximately 30 minutes each. A recent addition to their podcast collection is an interview with Scottish filmmaker Luke Fowler on which he talks about his filmed portraits of experimental musicians, the revolutionary potential of the past and the responsibility of the spectator.

A repository of artists’ online works that draw their inspiration from Kurt Schwitters. Guided by his innovations in visual arts, spoken word, typography and poetry, the project anticipates how Schwitters’ spirit might have flourished in the online world, while highlighting the debt that new forms of digital collage owe to Schwitters’ formative example. Funded by Film and Video Umbrella, the site includes newly commissioned works by Andrea Luka Zimmerman, Nick Crowe and Ian Rawlinson, Ian Forsyth and Jane Pollard, Alec Finlay, and George Barber. Their works reflect the many different facets of Schwitters’ aesthetic while exploring today’s ever expanding outlets for combining and communicating images, texts and sounds. Whether using content-sharing platforms such as Pinterest as places to find and assemble material, or experimenting with other forms of digital dissemination such as downloads and applications, the pieces demonstrate how Schwitters’ practice continues to reverberate in the present.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation is an international philanthropic organisation which funds projects in the areas of arts and culture, education, health and sports, and social welfare. Among these projects is The Agora Institute, at Johns Hopkins University, a multidisciplinary centre that aims to serve as a forum for bringing together experts from the fields of political science, sociology, history, neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, and ethics to examine the dynamics of civic discourse and design and test means for improving open dialogue, civic engagement, and democratic governance. A YouTube channel which aims to tell the history of cinema, one film at a time. The first episode cheats slightly, covering the years 1888 - 1914 in one fell swoop, but from 1915 onwards the focus is on a single film per year, each example being selected for the way in which it demonstrates the advances made in the cinematic medium, in terms of technology, technique, genre etc. Amongst the directors covered are Charlie Chaplin, Sergei Eisenstein, Cecil B. DeMille and Buster Keaton. The site addresses animation, the advent of sound, techniques such as montage and the close-up, as well as early filmic examples of documentary, horror and science-fiction.
