WIPO Lex, launched in September 2010 by the World Intellectual Property Organization, is an on-line global intellectual property (IP) reference resource which provides up-to-date information on national IP laws and treaties. It also features related information which elaborates, analyzes and interprets these laws and treaties. The database is searchable by country and topic, including copyright and related rights, and enforcement of IP and related laws.

The purpose of this online learning object is to explore the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) that may be within multimedia items, and to highlight some of the complications and considerations that need to be taken into account before a deposit of this type can be made into a repository.
Following two short introductions to multimedia and to copyright, questions are then posed on some of the details of copyright within varying item types. Feedback on, and an explanation to, the question’s answers are given. Also included is a short exercise looking at what needs to be taken into consideration before allowing a performance video item into a repository. The learning object concludes with a look at Performers’ Rights and highlights what repository staff should be aware of in regard to this IPR within potential repository deposits.
The material of this learning object has been adapted from the interactive ‘Multimedia Deposits: Complications and Considerations’ presentation given at the 2009 Gregynog Colloquium WRN Repository Stream.

Created using Thinkmap data-animation technology, this is a ‘spatial map of linguistic associations’; in effect, a visualisation of the operation and meaning of a thesaurus. Click on any of the floating words and a variety of associated words and meanings branch out, then click on these, and journey on through the English language. A simple idea, beautifully executed, but will only work on systems that support Java.

- Web Links
A searchable, annotated subject directory of nearly 8,000 resources selected and evaluated by librarians. Informative without being too wordy, attractively laid out and easy to use, it divides each topic into ‘Best of...', ‘Directories’, ‘Databases’ and ‘Specific Resources’. Radio and television are categorised under ‘Media’, but films are hidden under ‘Recreation’.
This site is no longer active, but the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine offers a capture of the website as it appeared on 30/08/2007.This does not include access to the moving images.

Essentially an electronic primer for Daniel Chandler’s book Semiotics: The Basics, the text is aimed at absolute beginners and is a useful introduction to the study of semiotics. There are a number of hyper links throughout the essays which either take you to the bibliography or other parts of the site or to the results page on Alta Vista. The site has been updated many times since the publication of the book version.

Part of the Internet Archive, which also covers archived moving images (The Internet Moving Images Archive), audio and software, the Wayback Machine holds cached versions of thousands of websites and billions of pages, allowing users to look at sites that are no longer available or at earlier versions of ones that are still around. An invaluable resource that, due to the gigantic nature of the holdings, is slightly hampered by the fact that no list of the holdings can be easily provided. This means inevitably that correct recall of the URL in question is necessary, or failing that, searching for it on the web first.
