    The website of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). The British Architectural Library holds DVDs, videotapes and sound recordings of talks and lectures which can be accessed on site. Holdings are international in scope and cover a wide range of subjects, from prehistory to the present. In addition to architectural theory, practice and history there is material on allied subjects such as building and construction, civil engineering, structural engineering, landscape architecture, interior design and decoration, the decorative arts, town and country planning, and construction law. Holdings can be searched on the library catalogue. The Library is free to non-RIBA members with proof of identity.

A highly detailed and authoritative account of the earliest days of television and McLean’s restoration activities. The clear and easy to navigate site includes a bibliography and links to McLean’s published articles.

    MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a web-based publication of almost all Massachusetts Institute of Technology course content. The majority of courses contain video or audio lectures. Several courses are translated into other languages. Among the many courses covered are: Neuroscience and Behaviour, Engineering Dynamics, Energy Decisions, Markets and Policies and Computational and Systems Biology.

    Penton Media launched Engineering TV in 2007 across its design engineering group which includes Electronic Design, Machine Design, Power Electronics Technology, Microwaves & RF, Mobile Dev & Design, Medical Design, Motion System Design, Source ESB and Electronic Design Europe. Since the launch, EngineeringTV has produced over 2,000 episodes and generated referrals from Google, Yahoo, MSN, Carnegie Mellon, University of Michigan College of Engineering, and many societies, associations and engineer blogs.

    The Association Science & Télévision (AST) is a group of independent producers working for 37 different production companies based in France. These companies produce films in all genres but a large portion of their output is devoted to scientific productions. Together, they produce the vast majority of scientific programming broadcast on television in France, much of which also circulates abroad. The website (in French and English versions) gives details of the member companies and the association’s activities, together with a catalogue of the films they have produced (searchable by title or producer), with links to the producer’s site for further filmographic information.

    A collection of images of work produced by students at the RCA from 1960 to 2002 in the fields of fine and applied art, design and communications. The majority of images are installation shots taken from final-year degree shows, representing the culmination of each student’s time at the RCA. The initial selection (August 2010) of over 5,000 images is drawn from the College’s collection of around 30,000 slides of student work. It features the work of hundreds of students across all departments, including animation, architecture & interiors, ceramics & glass, communication art & design, design products, fashion, metalwork & jewellery, industrial design, painting, photography, sculpture, stained glass, textiles, vehicle design and printmaking. Use of the images is restricted to non-commercial use and teaching.

    Shotlist, part of the EBS Trust, produces subject-specific video materials for teaching and research, which are distributed at minimal cost to all UK education establishments, who are also able to purchase sub-masters from which they are permitted to copy, re-edit, and re-format the programmes according to their own needs. The site gives descriptions of the videos by subject: Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Engineering, Information Systems, Practical Maths, Psychology, and a series of lectures on Irish literary figures including Joyce, Wilde and Yeats.

    A site devoted to information about recordings of various industrial processes and other aspects of industrial archaeology. There are two types of programmes - ‘productions’ are fully-edited programmes with commentary and ‘compilations’ are virtually unedited collections of archive material.     A service funded, until July 2011, by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) for accessing Internet resources for learning and teaching communities in the UK. Organised into 19 gateways covering Science and Technology, Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Health and Life Sciences. Previously known as the Resource Discovery Network. NB Intute closed in July 2011 and the site has now been archived. No further resources are being added and no changes are being made to existing content, so the resource will increasingly become less useful and reliable.

    The IET is one of the world’s largest engineering institutions with over 168,000 members in 150 countries. The site offers free teaching resources and classroom activities for students aged 11-19 years including lesson plans, handouts and film clips. To gain access to the downloadable-free content you need to register, and to access all the resources which include video clips you need to filter by ‘video’. The content can also be searched by subject, exam board, key stage and age range. Subjects include Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Maths, Physics and D&T.
