    This freely available resource presents the materials and documentation associated with Siobhan Davies’ choreographies as a single online collection. Of particular interest are digitised videos of the filmed records of choreographies in rehearsal and in the studio. The search function allows the user to filter by media, (still, moving image, audio etc.), dance work, dance artist, musician and designer. The resource is the result of a collaboration between Coventry University and Siobhan Davies Dance which was funded by the AHRC. All the moving image content is streamed in flash video format

    The Merce Cunningham Trust maintains a directory of film and video featuring the work of renowned choreographer. Mondays with Merce is a series of 16 freely available videos, each featuring Cunningham discussing an important aspect of his work, as well as interviews with dancers and collaborators who have worked with him. The site also features Dance Capsules, 86 of Merce Cunningham’s key works. Each capsule contains complete documentation of the work in question, including performance videos, sound recordings, lighting plots, décor images, costume designs, production notes, interviews with artistic personnel, and licensing information. Previews of this resource are freely available but users must subscribe to gain full access.

    On-demand streaming platform for educational institutions featuring over 26,000 films from leading producers including PBS, BBC, the Criterion Collection, First Run Features, Media Education Foundation, but also many other smaller, niche producers. The site offers both a platform from which to stream films as well as providing a video hosting service. A full range of academic subjects is covered and many of the films, programmes and clips are not otherwise available on DVD. The site also features detailed analytics so that librarians can more easily assess how the site is being used by students. Subscription is based on paying only for the films which students and institutions actually watch.

    A feature within BBC Radio 4’s Front Row arts review series. 75 leading creative minds choose their favourite work. Speakers include art critic and historian Brian Sewell (Velasquez’s painting Christ Contemplated by the Christian Soul, National Gallery, London), Bernardo Bertolucci (Fellini’s film, LA DOLCE VITA , historian Mary Beard (the sculpture Laocoön and His Sons on display at the Vatican Museum in Rome), and musician Nigel Kennedy (the song Black and Blue, a jazz standard written by Fats Waller). The interviews are available indefinitely as podcasts.

    The Jerome Robbins Dance Division of The New York Public Library is the largest and most comprehensive archive in the world devoted to the documentation of dance. Chronicling the art of dance in all its manifestations — ballet, ethnic, modern, social, and folk. Over 3,000 items have been digitised including performances, panel discussions and interviews with practitioners. Searches can be undertaken by dancer, dance, choreographer, costume designer and composer in addition to date and title. The Division also houses the Rudolph Nureyev Collection, the world’s largest collection of films, video and audio material related to the dancer. The majority of titles can be viewed only on site; a small number is are available for streaming onsite. Material can be searched on New York Public Library’s online catalogue.

    An extensively researched and authoritative online database of Shakespeare-related content in film, television, radio and video recording. It is international in scope and regularly updated currently holding over 8,000 records dating from the 1890s to the present day. This resource was created through a three-year Resource Enhancement grant from the Arts & Humanities Research Council. The Database encompasses not only ‘straight’ productions of the plays but also parodies, plot borrowings, documentaries, and Shakespeare as represented in music, mime and dance.

    The Irish Traditional Music Archive – Taisce Cheol Dúchais Éireann – is a national reference archive and resource centre for the traditional song, instrumental music and dance of Ireland. Established in 1987, the Archive is the first body to be exclusively concerned with the making of a comprehensive multimedia collection of materials – sound recordings, books and serials, sheet music and ballad sheets, photographs, videos and DVDs. It currently (as of 5/2015) holds over 30,000 commercial and non-commercial sound recordings, 23,000 books and serials, 12,000 photographs and negatives, 10,000 computer music engravings of melodies, 7,000 ballad sheets and items of sheet music, 2,500 programmes, 1,500 videotapes and DVDs, 400 music manuscripts, and other materials such as posters and flyers. Sound and visual material has been digitised and can be searched via the online catalogue.

    Artfilms-Digital is the video streaming service of Contemporary Arts Media and Artfilms offering more than 5000 films for arts education and arts practitioners. Users can watch a preview but must take out a subscription to view the entire film. Films may also be purchased. Films can be searched by title or by category (e.g. Art History, Dance on Film, Performance Art). Catalogues arranged by theme can be downloaded as a pdf.

    The Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage is a research and educational unit of the Smithsonian Institution promoting the understanding and continuity of diverse, contemporary grassroots cultures in the United States and around the world. The somewhat cluttered site, and so not the easiest to navigate, hosts four podcasts and over 200 streamed videos including the music of Lead Belly, Pete Seeger and many bluegrass and jazz musicians. Several hundred sound recordings are available on the Smithsonian Folkways pages with excellent contextual and biographical information.
