    The National Film and Television School is the UK’s leading centre for professional training in the film, television and media industries. Although rather lacking in stills and design department, the site does manage to provide all the salient information about the courses offered, the tutors who run them, its facilites, and on how to apply.

    Creative Skillset is the Creative Industries’ Sector Skills Council (SSC) which comprises TV, film, radio, interactive media, animation, computer games, facilities, photo imaging, publishing, advertising and fashion and textiles. Its aim is to support the productivity of the industry to ensure that it remains globally competitive. To this end the organisation conducts consultation work with industry, publishes research and strategic documents, runs funding schemes and project work, and provides careers resources for those looking for a route into the creative industries, as well as for established industry professionals. The website provides rich resources in all these areas.

    Billing itself as ‘the Hub of Animation on the Internet’, this multi-categorised site includes everything of interest in the world of animation, from current releases, to web links, news stories, articles, profiles of animators, videos and artwork for sale, the journal Visual Magic Magazine, business information and vacancies. Although no material is streamed as such, there are brief animated GIF clips throughout, particularly in the section ‘Animation Heaven and Hell’ which includes the work of Starewicz and Svankmajer.

    South West Screen was the Regional Screen Agency working to grow and sustain all areas of film, television and interactive media in the South West of England including Gloucestershire, Bristol, Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. In October 2011 South West Screen became part of Creative England which now covers all the regions outside London, but this website remains as a record of the work done by SWS over the last decade.

    The British Film Institute is the UK’s national information and resource centre for the moving image. Its activities cover the BFI National Library, the BFI National Archive, the National Film Theatre, education and publication. The site includes access to its huge database of film and television information, and an online catalogue for the BFI National Library of over 42,000 books on film and television. Also information on screenings at the National Film Theatre, educational resources, film and media industries information. The site is making available an increasing amount of online video content, including special projects such as the Mitchell and Kenyon collection of early actualities, but much video content is being made available through Screenonline .

    A useful site which includes the Directory of International Film and Video Festivals, filmmaker resources in the UK, training and careers advice for the film industry, a database of British film directors, and British Films Catalogue from 1998 onwards, and a British Films in Progress section.     Site which aims to give people a start in the television industry by devising CVs at three levels of service: Bronze (CV posting with access to over 1300 production companies, plus full site access), Silver (as with Bronze, plus personal email advice) and Gold (as above, with one hour’s worth of telephone coaching time).
