    Hundreds of audio extracts from the BBC archives can be accessed here using Real Player, and feature a wide range of personalities, including Siegfried Sassoon, Alfred Hitchcock, Roald Dahl, George Bernard Shaw, Stevie Smith and dozens of others. It is possible to search alphabetically by name or by profession such as: actors, architects, cartoonists, composers, dancers, film directors, musicians, painters, photographers, poets, religious thinkers, sculptors, sports and writers. The individual clips are supplemented with biographical notes, and the site, part of the BBC’s main audio-visual site AudioVideo is extremely well presented and easy to use. This site was originally knows as Voices from the archive.

    The News Market is a web-based video marketing and delivery platform enabling companies, government and non-profit organizations to distribute video and audio content they have created. Leading motor manufacturers and companies such as IBM, Microsoft, Pfitzer as well as organizations including the International Olympic Committee, Google, Yahoo! and Visit Mexico stream clips on the site. Free registration allows bona fide broadcast and online journalists and bloggers to see free or chargeable content to incorporate into their work. BrandTV enables any organization to create a branded online video channel on their website and to utilize viral tools while retaining control; MarketPlace is an online video exchange for content producers who wish to buy or sell premium video. In April 2008 The News Market site launched the Bejing 2008 Channel offering video clips dedicated to athletes, venues, events and Beijing itself.

    Telegraph TV comprises 12 channels presenting video reports linked to the Telegraph newspaper. Individual channels focus on news, fashion, travel, money, cars, football, business, culture, food, technology, archive stories, as well as Right On - a political channel presenting right-of-centre content. This weekly show has three elements - a round-table discussion chaired by Ann Widdecombe, an ‘Alas Smith and Jones’ type sketch featuring Conservative blogger Ian Dale and associate editor SimonHeffer, and political gossip entitled ‘Westminster Whispers’.

    Based at the University of Portsmouth, Lifesign is a JISC-funded project to develop, catalogue and evaluate the use of streaming media for learning and teaching in the broad life sciences. Its object is to identify appropriate film/video sources in the life sciences and deliver these across networks and the internet. The site includes sample streams in different bandwidths (using Windows Media Player) in such fields as electrocardiography, medical imaging, microscopy and sports science. A clearly designed and helpful resource which also serves as an advertisement and valuable guide to the potential for streamed media for learning and teaching.
    This site is no longer active, but the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine offers a capture of the website as it appeared on 05/03/2005. This does not include access to the moving images.

    Human Kinetics is an American business with a UK affiliate that produces textbooks, software, videos, audiotapes, journals and distance education courses for teachers and practitioners in sports and physical activities. The site includes many videos for purchase (NTSC format) covering Sport Sciences, Fitness, Sports, Sports Medicine, Physical Education, Aquatics, Recreation, and Dance. Human Kinetics also organises a rolling programme of free, online webinars which cover a variety of topics such as sports, coaching, health, fitness, nutrition, training, physical education, recreation and more. These are recorded for on-demand, online viewing after the event.

    The Research Channel was an educational television network based at the University of Washington in Seattle and operated by a consortium of leading US research and academic institutions who contributed science-related programming to viewers in the United States and in other countries via satellite and cable television. Due to funding issues broadcasting ceased in 2010, but the collection of over 300 programmes is still available on YouTube.

    Excellent new site from the BBC, giving a wide range of advice, information and instruction on football, cricket, golf, tennis, rugby union, rugby league, athletics, basketball, swimming and other sports. Each sport has a video masterclass (e.g. for cricket, Ian Salisbury demonstrating spin bowling and Mark Ramprakash showing batting strokes; for football, the Fulham Ladies show how to get past defenders), information on equipment, rules, and how to take part across the country, as well as special features, interviews with stars, and plenty of illustrative material. There is also a ‘Disability’ section for each sport, a ‘virtual gym’, and advice on diet and sports injuries. The video requires RealPlayer, and is available for modem and broadband connections.
