This page presents the resources in a clearly laid out manner, making it easy to see at a glance what is on offer, with brief, informative summaries of each podcast and a clear design. There are too many resources to mention them all here, but selected highlights include: VoxEUROPP, Current Affairs in Mandarin, Institute of Public Affairs and Democratic Audio. There are also links to other outlets which syndicate the content, including iTunesU, YouTube, Webfeeds, mixcloud and Soundcloud. All the resources are freely available.

These webcasts consist of lectures and talks by experts, academics, researchers and archivist. The Library of Congress has many different sites, collections and projects, covering a wide range of subjects: all are well-represented here and have been divided into eight broad subject areas: Biography, History, Performing Arts, Education, Government, Poetry and Literature, Religion and Science & Technology. Users can narrow their searches further within these broad headings, according to project/site/collection eg. The American Folklife Center, the Music Division, the Digital Future and You project, to name but three. The webcasts come with a brief description, date when uploaded and fully searchable transcripts. There is also a section for recently added webcasts. Although the talking head format is slightly old-fashioned the content is good and its searchability makes it a useful and user-friendly resource.

This site presents videos of academics from various disciplines, talking to camera about their interests and research. The aim is to communicate research in a way that is accessible to the wider public. The videos are professionally made and the participants present their ideas clearly in an unadorned, simple way, largely relying on direct, to camera communication, without any other audiovisual aids. Users can narrow their search by four broad categories: Arts and Humanities, Formal Sciences, Natural Sciences, Professional and Social Sciences. Amongst the disciplines currently represented on the site are Architecture, History, Philosophy, Sociology, Finance, Fashion, Film Studies, Management and Planetary Sciences. All content is free to view but there are various Licensing options for use of the content beyond the platform. A simple idea, well executed.

This website delivers thousands of free academic and educational multimedia content, including videos, animations and simulations. The site’s strengths are in Mathematics and the Sciences, but also cover History, Economics, English and Religion. The videos on the site are aggregated from other American educational collections (including the Khan Academy) and arranged by broad subject areas which are then subdivided into narrower concepts, and laid out on the page in a logical and easy to follow screen display. It is slightly frustrating that there is little contextual information associated with the videos, in the form of descriptions, contributors, and other useful metadata. It is also not possible to click through to view the video on its original home page. Nonetheless, worth visiting for the range and quality of material available.

This site is one of the outcomes of a research project led by academics at the Universities of Sussex and Warwick. The focus is on new writings about global forms of queer cinema, based mainly, though not exclusively on scholarly models from queer theory and film studies. There is a mixture of short articles and longer essays, as well as multimedia work and video essays. A resources page has links to other online studies and other useful information, including an interactive map showing 256 LGBT/queer film festivals which have existed around the world since 1977.

The core of the site is the video list: content can be filtered by a subject search and the films are free to view. Among the subjects covered are Elections and Democracy, Net Neutrality, Peak Oil and Terrorism.

GEOSET (Global Educational Outreach for Science, Engineering and Technology) is a freely accessible, searchable internet gateway to a selection of SET and related educational materials. Most of the videos take the form of ‘concept modules’ - rather than whole lectures or courses - focused on specific topics, in the form of split-screen presentations, in which the video of the presenter is in one window and the educational material synchronised and presented in a second window. GEOSET also links to other major sources of educational material such as at the Vega archive site and the Royal Society. Users can filter by age suitability, type of video, and subject.
