    This website is the home of the British Psychoanalytic Society, which aims to promote the development of the theory and practice of psychoanalysis. The site features a number of videos and short films. Other films trace the history of psychoanalysis in Britain, look at aspects of theory and practise, offer advice on training and show discussions between old and new generations of psychoanalysts. Longer versions of many of the films are also available to purchase as DVDs from the institute’s website.

    A vast and useful site providing free downloadable video and audio lectures of entire courses from respected academic institutions from around the world including MIT, Stanford and Yale. The site is science-oriented but covers some of the Humanities too, ranging across the fields of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Accounting, Dentistry, Nursing, Psychology, History, Language courses, Literature, Law, Economics, Philosophy, Astronomy and Political Science. Most of the materials offered are licensed by the respective institutes under a Creative Commons licence. One of the more innovative aspects of Learner’s TV is the provision of animations for certain science subjects to help students visualise difficult or abstract concepts.

    The Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation, located in Boston, Massachusetts, is a research, training, and service organisation ‘dedicated to improving the lives of persons who have psychiatric disabilities by improving the effectiveness of people, programs, and service systems’. The site streams occasional live webcasts and maintains an archive of past webcasts, including Dr. James Prochaska on ‘Helping Populations Progress Through Stages of Change’, Dr. Tom McGuire on ‘Financing mental health services and issues of cost-effectiveness’, and a World Health Day event, ‘The Recovery Vision: New paradigm, new questions, new answers’.

    Gresham College, named after Sir Thomas Gresham, has been giving free lectures for some 400 years. Over 2,000 audio and/or video lectures given since 2001 are available on the site for free, on-demand streaming or download approximately two weeks after they have been given. The main subject areas are Art & Literature, Medical Science, Business, History, Law, Mathematics, Music, Politics, Religion, Science, and Unusual, which includes Media, Education, Climate Change and others. Results can also be filtered by subcategories. For example, there is a section on Film under the Arts & Literature category, and a section on Film Music under the Music category. The lectures last, on average, between 25 minutes and a little under an hour. They all have a good number of chapters and a fair amount of information is given on the site as well as transcripts and links to related materials.
    The content can also be browsed via the tab Watch which contains four groupings: All Past Lectures, Series, Shorts and Short Series.

    Videos produced for use in the School of Neurology, Neurobiology and Psychiatry. They are in two main groups: psychopathology clips, which are .avi files, and higher quality Real Media streaming video, used to illustrate common disorders. The clips are based on Stage 3 Cases as used in Newcastle University undergraduate medical course. All the clips are role-playing fictional scenarios using clinical staff and actors. No real patients are included. The clips may be re-used under a Creative Commons licence. 2010 note - the video files are being incrementally upgraded with flash video files.

    Based in London, the Wellcome Trust is the world’s largest medical research charity. Its mission is ‘to foster and promote research with the aim of improving human and animal health’. It is an excellent research point for those interested in medical research and the history of medicine. Also includes online exhibitions and updates on current research activities undertaken by the institute. Its extensive Medical Film and Video Library can be searched via the Wellcome catalogue. A Digital Film Collection of moving images on 20th-century healthcare and medicine has been added for online streaming or download. This consists of over 450 titles - 100 hours of film and video - which are freely available under Creative Commons licences. The resource has been created by the Wellcome Library in partnership with JISC Collections.

    In January 2014 the Wellcome Images collection went online, making available over 100,000 images under a Creative Commons licence, which means they can be downloaded to freely copy, distribute, edit and manipulate, for personal or commercial use as long as the source Wellcome Library is attributed.
