    A project sponsored by Cambridge University and The Wellcome Trust that gives researchers the opportunity to work with filmmakers and artists to make short documentaries about their work. The resulting 13 films are accessible and engaging. Titles in the series include Rise of the Machines with two shorts: Pain in the Machine, which looks at the possibilities and challenges of creating a robot that feels pain,and Friend in the Machine, which considers relationships with robots, Morphogenesis, Dish life and DNA Origami: folding on the smallest scale.

Produced by former paediatric urological surgeon Robert Whitaker, the site features podcasts, audovisual demonstrations, revision exercises, tips and mnemonics. A subscription site provides even more material, including 144 video podcasts, 23 hours of audio and 38 lectures.     Academic Video Online: Premium is the largest and most comprehensive video subscription available to libraries. It delivers more than 50,000 video titles spanning all academic subject areas including anthropology, business, counselling, film, health, history, music, and more. More than 12,000 titles are exclusive to Alexander Street. From Jan 1 2016, it includes the new “AVON-to-Own” feature, where subscribing libraries receive perpetual rights to videos they select at the end of each annual term commensurate with the amount of the subscription, using an entire year of usage data to support selections. Subscribing libraries also receive Alexander Street’s Media Hosting Service at no charge.

    This charitably funded American website produces free-to-view videos on the subject of mental health. The site features a number of series on different topics, each series being made up of different chapters. Topics covered include bipolarity, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, women’s issues, psychosis, young people, older people, schizophrenia and suicide. Each series takes a different approach to the subject, from Cracking Up, in which comedians take mental health into the spotlight, to The Developing Brain which presents stories about the successful treatment of children’s mental health challenges.

    Safe Hands for Mothers is an organisation which aims to improve maternal and newborn health, advocate for policy change and increase investment in maternal and newborn health. They aim to achieve these aims through the production of films which are used by their partners at a community, national and international level. The organisation’s focus is particularly on African countries including Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. The films address issues such as FGM, safe family planning, newborn care. Many of the films are intended for the use of frontline health workers in rural communities but can be used in a much wider educational context.
