    This educational resource includes predominantly audio lectures and interviews (and some video content) focusing on such American authors as Paul Auster, Samuel R. Delaney, Norman Mailer, Allen Ginsberg and Ezra Pound and many others. The contents can be searched by name or by such designated clusters as American Poetry, Japanese Poetry and Poetry and Empire. In addition there is a long list of interviews held by Charles Bernstein bith a variety of writers. The items can be accessed as Real or MP3 files. The audio is of a generally good standard but the video is extremely variable.

    The Academy keeps a complete archive of its live poetry readings and other events, dating back to John Berryman’s historic first reading of The Dream Songs on Halloween night, 1963. The resulting Poetry Audio Archive spans over forty years, comprises more than 775 recordings and 1,000 hours of tape, and represents the work of nearly 800 poets. More than 400 audio clips are available for free on the Poets.org website, with more added every week. Additional audio recordings of Academy readings in their entirety are available for purchase on CD. The website also streams videos of a number of poets talking about their work and influences.

    The first world war is presented here in a series of in-depth collections which seek to inform the novice as well as the more knowledgeable user. These cover a variety of features related to the period, including posters, stills, moving images, as well as some of the best-known songs and poems from that time. In addition to this, there are sections devoted to individual battles, specific weapons as well as tours of the battlefields and the cemeteries, all of which are presented in a mixture of sound, vision and text.     Part of an American project to encourage poetry reading at a local and national level, the over forty poems presented here (all in English - foreign titles have been translated) include works by such authors as Andrew Marvel, Longfellow, Shakespeare, Sylvia Plath, Robert Frost as well as less well known poets such as Joy Harjo and Sone No Yoshitada. All the texts are provided in full, in addition to which they can all can be heard being read by a selection of enthusiasts as part of a five-minute video (viewable using RealPlayer) which introduces the life and activities of these readers.

    This British Library Sound Archive online resource comprises 40,000 selected recordings of music, spoken word, and human and natural environments. Anyone can search or browse the information on this site and listen to 23,000 of the recordings, but for copyright reasons only people in licensed UK higher and further education institutions, or in the BL’s reading rooms, can play the remaining recordings. Downloading is available in licensed institutions. The collections to be featured are popular music tracks (mostly British bands from the 1930s to 1990s), African Writers’ Club (250 hours on art, literature, music and politics), Art and design interviews (e.g. Denys Lasdun, Eduardo Paolozzi, Paula Rego), Beethoven String Quartets (750 recordings from the last 100 years), David Rycroft Africa recordings (music and poetry, mainly from Southern Africa), Klaus Wachsmann Uganda recordings (1,500 recordings from 26 culture groups), Oral history of jazz in Britain (with musicians, promoters and label-owners), Records and record players (developments in recording technology), Sony Radio Awards - drama (every short-listed play 1986-1997), Soundscapes (evocative environmental sounds from Great Britain and Canada) and St Mary-le-Bow public debates (e.g. John Betjeman, Jonathan Miller, Diana Rigg). The project as been funded as part of the JISC digitisation Programme.

    57 Productions organises public events and distributes recorded material on popular poetic material in the UK, representing over fifty writers and performers. The catalogue offers for sale audio and video recordings by, amongst others, Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze, John Cooper Clarke, Linto Kwezi Johnson, Liz Lochhead, Adrian Mitchell and Benjamin Zephaniah.The Jukebox section of the site plays audio recordings of poets reading their own work. In October 2006 a new website will be launched - carrying new audio-visual, audio & interactive content – including the worlds’ first Poetry Video Jukebox which will feature newly produced & special arkive poetry-films and iPoems will present new recordings alongside 57s back-catalogue, starting with 1001 MP3s. Access to the new site will be through subscription-based membership areas and by directly downloadable MPEG & MP3 files. Annual subscriptions will be £10 - to access all areas. Downloads of audio-visual & audio content will also be available at £1 for 1 x MPEG & 50p for 1 x MP3 files (all figures inc. VAT)

    Gresham College, named after Sir Thomas Gresham, has been giving free lectures for some 400 years. Over 2,000 audio and/or video lectures given since 2001 are available on the site for free, on-demand streaming or download approximately two weeks after they have been given. The main subject areas are Art & Literature, Medical Science, Business, History, Law, Mathematics, Music, Politics, Religion, Science, and Unusual, which includes Media, Education, Climate Change and others. Results can also be filtered by subcategories. For example, there is a section on Film under the Arts & Literature category, and a section on Film Music under the Music category. The lectures last, on average, between 25 minutes and a little under an hour. They all have a good number of chapters and a fair amount of information is given on the site as well as transcripts and links to related materials.
    The content can also be browsed via the tab Watch which contains four groupings: All Past Lectures, Series, Shorts and Short Series.

    A largely complete collection of the surviving shows from the 1938 American radio drama show, The Mercury Theatre on the Air, produced by Orson Welles and John Houseman. The complete shows can be streamed or downloaded in RealAudio format (some shows are also available as downloadable MP3s). The site also included the later series sponsored by Campbell’s Soup, The Campbell Playhouse (1938-40). This exceptional resource includes broadcasts of Dracula, Heart of Darkness and the notorious The War of the Worlds which caused a panic throughout America.
