This resource has been produced for teachers and students of phonetics, lingusitics and speech therapy. A collaboration between five Scottish universities, it consists of synchronised ultrasound video, audio and 2D/3D diagrams of modelled speech and spontaneous speech, from a variety of different regions in Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Canada and New Zealand. The site’s accent chart presents a grid of words and speakers, so that users can compare how the same word is pronounced in different countries and regions.

This is the website of Germany’s international broadcaster, which provides a wide range of television, radio and online services in thirty languages and is particularly strong in its coverage of culture, education and European social, political and economic matters. The Learn German page, provides access to a range of language courses, suitable for all levels, and including e-learning services, videos, audio courses and podcasts, as well as written materials and worksheets. Amongst the language resources on offer is Langsam Gesprochne Nachrichten, a series of podcasts, with accompanying transcripts, of the news being read slowly in German.

Named after one of the leading figures of the Russian Enlightenment, the Centre, which is based at the University of Edinburgh, has a number of media resources, including videos and podcasts, on aspects of Russian language, culture, history and politics, and a number of interviews with prominent Russian academics and cultural figures. The Centre also has a YouTube channel which has an archive of the proceedings of recent seminars.

Produced by the Centre for Dante Studies at Leeds University, these podcasts cover key moments in Dante’s Divina Commedia, each item consisting of an analysis of a brief passage from the poem. To help provide context another group of podcasts offers a broader look at Dante’s religious thought. There is also a series of interviews with scholars and academics about recent work on Dante and reviews of recent publications. The podcasts can be freely downloaded in MP3 format and isteners can also subscribe via iTunes.

The Maison Française D’Oxford is a research centre associated with the University of Oxford and specialising in the humanities and social sciences. The website offers over 450 podcasts, some of which are in French and some in English, which take the form of lectures, discussions, conferences and interviews, covering literature, politics, philosophy, history, languages and the problems of translation, amongst other subjects. The podcasts can be downloaded or streamed and are free to listen to.

Most of the materials offered are licensed by the respective institutes under a Creative Commons licence. One of the more innovative aspects of Learner’s TV is the provision of animations for certain science subjects to help students visualise difficult or abstract concepts.

The UK is a rich landscape of regional accents and dialects, each evidence of our society’ s continuity and change, our local history and our day-to-day lives. This site captures and celebrates the diversity of spoken English in the second half of the twentieth century. You can listen to 71 sound recordings and over 600 short audio clips chosen from two collections of the British Library Sound Archive: the Survey of English Dialects and the Millennium Memory Bank. In separate sections of the site you can explore the differences that exist in spoken English as you move across the country; hear how English has changed in different parts of the country over the last fifty years; take an in-depth look at three specific varieties of contemporary English: - Received Pronunciation, Geordie Dialect, and English as spoken in the UK’s minority ethnic communities; contribute your own recordings and language investigations to the site.
