The Librarian is In is a lively podcast presented by staff of the New York Public Library. Styling itself the ‘podcast about books, culture and what to read next’ each episode does exactly that, adding information about issues affecting librarians and information professionals. Amongst the other other offerings are the Louis Armstrong Jazz Oral History Project and interviews with writers like Michael Chabon, Richard Price, Wole Soyinka, Art Spiegelman and Tom Wolfe.

On-demand streaming platform for educational institutions featuring over 26,000 films from leading producers including PBS, BBC, the Criterion Collection, First Run Features, Media Education Foundation, but also many other smaller, niche producers. The site offers both a platform from which to stream films as well as providing a video hosting service. A full range of academic subjects is covered and many of the films, programmes and clips are not otherwise available on DVD. The site also features detailed analytics so that librarians can more easily assess how the site is being used by students. Subscription is based on paying only for the films which students and institutions actually watch.

These webcasts consist of lectures and talks by experts, academics, researchers and archivist. The Library of Congress has many different sites, collections and projects, covering a wide range of subjects: all are well-represented here and have been divided into eight broad subject areas: Biography, History, Performing Arts, Education, Government, Poetry and Literature, Religion and Science & Technology. Users can narrow their searches further within these broad headings, according to project/site/collection eg. The American Folklife Center, the Music Division, the Digital Future and You project, to name but three. The webcasts come with a brief description, date when uploaded and fully searchable transcripts. There is also a section for recently added webcasts. Although the talking head format is slightly old-fashioned the content is good and its searchability makes it a useful and user-friendly resource.

A monthly seminar series, hosted by Stewart Brand, founder of The Long Now Foundation. The SALT seminars were started in 2003 with the aim of building "a compelling body of ideas about long-term thinking to help nudge civilization toward our goal of making long-term thinking automatic and common instead of difficult and rare". The website includes podcasts from a wide range of speakers, including geneticist Craig Ventner, technologist Ray Kurzweil and musician Brian Eno. A recurring concern is the use of environmental resources, but all speakers, from whatever discipline, are encouraged to frame their thoughts with reference to the deep past and the deep future: ie. to look 10,000 years ahead to combat the short-term thinking that the Long Now Foundation sees as endemic in modern culture. The entire archive of podcasts is available and new seminars are streamed live. Video of the seminars is available to members of the Long Now Foundation.
