British cinema newsreel library covering British Movietone News in its entirety from 1929-1979. Online database is fully searchable (the database also includes the TV-AM library) with detailed shotlists available. All its issues can now be viewed online via QuickTime and requires registration, which is free.
In 2015 the entire archive was published on a Movietone YouTube channel by AP Archive making thousands of news stories freely available to browse, share and embed. Note: Much of the metadata has been stripped out (for example release date and issue number) making a search for a specific event more difficult.

This comprehensive guide to the world of animation gives practical advice and demonstrations which are aimed at teaching beginners in the classroom, but which will also be of more general interest. The site is divided into four sections: Animation Lessons (requiring Flash plug-in) in which one can study a large number of simple animations frame by frame, Scriptwriting, Curriculum (dealing with equipment, materials and techniques) and a section devoted to computer animation. The layout is very easy to comprehend, further complementing this very useful resource.

Still in development, this AHRC funded project aims to provide transcriptions of some of the more important interviews from the BECTU Oral History Project as well as an online index to the British cinema trade journal, Kinematograph Weekly, which under various names ran from 1890 to 1971. The site currently features a transcript of an interview with the playwright, screenwriter and director Charles Bennett, best known for his collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock in the 1930s and a beta test version of a searchable index .

Formerly an excellent guide to web sites on the humanities, with helpful but not overwordy site descriptions and useful background material. It also integrates search results with results from the database of the North West Film Archive, an innovative and very welcome initative. NB Intute closed in July 2011 and the site has now been archived. No further resources are being added and no changes are being made to existing content, so the resource will increasingly become less useful and reliable.
