Homepage for a nostalgia channel in the United States which repeats old television programmes such as I Love Lucy, The Rockford Files, Batman, Gunsmoke, The Brady Bunch, Charlie’s Angels and many more. The site is rather noisy and littered with pop up windows which are something of an unwelcome distraction. None the less, it includes a wealth of material devoted to these programmes, including episode guides, short essays, stills, memorabilia, as well as the original theme tunes (which can be heard using either Real, QuickTime or Windows Media Player). There are also a number of new interviews with many of the actors from these shows that can be viewed using QuickTime.

A collection of short sound files from over ninety films (mostly contemporary), with links to video availability through Amazon and Blackstar. The site emphasises that all the sounds ‘retain their original copyright as owned by their respective movie production companies’ and are ‘for education, research, criticism or for review for movie purchase’.
This site is no longer active, but the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine offers a capture of the website as it appeared on 26/02/2005. This does not include access to the moving images.

The National Archives, which covers England, Wales and the United Kingdom, was formed in April 2003 by bringing together the Public Record Office and the Historical Manuscripts Commission. It is an underused resource for the study of film. Its online catalogue, National Archives Catalogue (formerly PROCAT), gives the researcher access to 9.5 million records, which include company papers, Foreign Office documents, copyright records, Ministry of Information wartime documents and other classes which relate to film production. The documents themselves are not accessible, but registered users can order documents to view at Kew online. The site also has a section giving information on Public Information Films from 1945-2006 which are streamed using Quicktime or Windows Media Player. 5 short public information films from the Charley Says series are available for download as podcasts, as are two audio lectures - one on the British soldier in India 1750-1914 and another on inventors and inventions in the industrial revolution.

Gresham College, named after Sir Thomas Gresham, has been giving free lectures for some 400 years. Over 2,000 audio and/or video lectures given since 2001 are available on the site for free, on-demand streaming or download approximately two weeks after they have been given. The main subject areas are Art & Literature, Medical Science, Business, History, Law, Mathematics, Music, Politics, Religion, Science, and Unusual, which includes Media, Education, Climate Change and others. Results can also be filtered by subcategories. For example, there is a section on Film under the Arts & Literature category, and a section on Film Music under the Music category. The lectures last, on average, between 25 minutes and a little under an hour. They all have a good number of chapters and a fair amount of information is given on the site as well as transcripts and links to related materials.
The content can also be browsed via the tab Watch which contains four groupings: All Past Lectures, Series, Shorts and Short Series.

    Festivals, Streaming/Download

The D.FILM Digital Film Festival, an online showcase of films made digitally, has now been turned into Dvolver. The goal of the festival was both to entertain, by showing audiences the very best work done by today’s new breed of digital filmmakers, and to inspire, by actively teaching them how they can do it themselves. The festival is no longer running and the new company is now involved in developing creativity widgets for online communication.

Over 2,000 streamable news images 1896-2000 (from French Pathe and ITN Archive) available on subscription at low and high bandwidths (using Windows Media Player). It is possible to search by names, keywords and dates (though there are only three clips available for the first fifteen years). Most images suffer from artifacting flaws throughout, a surprising number have French soundtracks, and little has been done to catalogue the material in any useful sense, but the range of material (almost half are from the 1990s) and its ease of use impresses. It costs £4 per year, and there is a free preview section. It also links to Frost.TV.
This site is no longer active, but the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine offers a capture of the website as it appeared on 05/08/2018. This does not include access to the moving images.
