    The website of the USA-based Competitive Enterprise Institute contains two thirty-second television advertisements which speak out against calls by environmental groups and some politicians for reduced energy use to combat global warming. The ads were broadcast in 14 U.S. cities from May 18 to May 28, 2006. The CEI is a public policy group backed by Exxon Mobil, General Motors and Ford and dedicated to advancing the principles of free enterprise and limited government. The ads were launched to tie in with the release of the Al Gore documentary AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH which aims to change the prevailing American view of climate change. A spoof film making fun of AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH is also available via the CEI website. Streaming is via YouTube.
    This site is no longer active, but the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine offers a capture of the website as it appeared on 06/07/2007. This does not include access to the moving images.

    Gresham College, named after Sir Thomas Gresham, has been giving free lectures for some 400 years. Over 2,000 audio and/or video lectures given since 2001 are available on the site for free, on-demand streaming or download approximately two weeks after they have been given. The main subject areas are Art & Literature, Medical Science, Business, History, Law, Mathematics, Music, Politics, Religion, Science, and Unusual, which includes Media, Education, Climate Change and others. Results can also be filtered by subcategories. For example, there is a section on Film under the Arts & Literature category, and a section on Film Music under the Music category. The lectures last, on average, between 25 minutes and a little under an hour. They all have a good number of chapters and a fair amount of information is given on the site as well as transcripts and links to related materials.
    The content can also be browsed via the tab Watch which contains four groupings: All Past Lectures, Series, Shorts and Short Series.

    A website streaming programmes from the WORLD series developed by FRONTLINE producers in conjunction with public television stations KQED San Francisco and WGBH Boston. The programmes focus on current affairs issues from around the world, covering countries and cultures rarely seen on American television.The online archive includes programmes broadcast since May 2002.     The Vega Science Trust aims to support and promote the science and technology communities through the use of television and the Internet. It produces television programmes, many of which have been broadcast on BBC2’s Learning Zone. The site contains details of the programmes, searchable by series, subject and speaker, which can be ordered online. There are also video clips (in QuickTime and MPEG formats), complete audio lectures (using RealAudio), complete video lectures by Harry Kroto, and a useful set of links to science video and related sources.

    green.tv, launched in March 2006, is a broadband tv channel for environmental films based in London and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme. It brings together films from a range of environmental organisations and independent filmmakers. It includes podcasts and RSS feeds. Videos are themed in the categories Business, Climate Change, Living, People, Transport, Technology, Nature,, and Energy. Partner channels featured on the site include UNEP (the United Nations Environment Programme), Greenpeace, IFAW (The International Fund for Animal Welfare), Friends of the Earth, New Consumer (championing fair trade and ethical living throughout the world), Friction.tv (an online platform for user generated news and opinion) and many more.

    TV-Link Europe provides an information service for the European audiovisual media, on behalf of the European Commission. It is dedicated to informing TV professionals about European projects and events. It offers up-to-date information and free broadcast-quality video to European broadcasters. The chief function of its site is to offer illustrative videos free of charge and free of rights to European broadcasters, in Betacam SP format. These are categorised under ‘Education and Culture’ and (more substantially) ‘Environment’. Detailed information is given on each production, with a selection viewable online for 56K or cable/xDSL connection. In French and English.

    This extensive resource offers well encoded video and audio recordings and podcasts of lectures held at the Royal Society on a broad range of scientific subjects including biology, climate science, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics and history of science. The archive is very well catalogued and organised. Many lectures are also webcast live. Lecturers include such luminaries as David Attenborough, Bill Bryson, Ben Okri and Tim Berners-Lee.     Formerly known as The Energy Bulletin, Resilience is an initiative of the Post Carbon Institute, a nonprofit organisation in the US dedicated to helping the world transition away from fossil fuels and build sustainable, resilient communities. The website publishes news, research and analysis relating to fossil fuel depletion and energy sustainability. The Media Publishers section of the website features downloadable audio (mp3), and streaming audio and video (RealPlayer files). Contents include interviews with authors, academics and politicians - mainly from the USA but also featuring UK and other international figures. It is regularly updated with new material, and follows contemporary events.

    The BBC, the bfi National Film and Television Archive, Channel 4 and the Open University have set up the Creative Archive Licence Group to make audiovisual archive content available for download under the terms of the Creative Archive Licence - a single, shared user licence scheme for the downloading of moving images, audio and stills. Moving image and sound content is freely available for download and non-commercial reuse, one users have signed into the Creative Archive Licence. Initial content from the BBC (including natural history, geographical locations, colours and the weather) and the British Film Institute (mostly silent film material) is now available, in Windows Media, QuickTime and MPEG-1 formats.
