Developed in association with the Indiana University Digital Library Program, the Televised Opera and Musical Comedy Database documents more than three-quarters of a century of opera, operetta and musical comedy telecasts produced in the United States. The database traces performance programming from early presentations on experimental TV stations to current live and recorded productions released on broadcast and closed circuit television, cable, home video and webcasts. The database is easy to navigate and entries typically gives title, series, opera company, composer, conductor, orchestra, soloists, transmission date, broadcast station, duration and production credits. Some records name the archive which holds a copy and the existence of a commercial VHS or DVD copy is indicated.

The Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research (WCFTR) is one of the world’s major archives of research materials relating to the entertainment industry. It maintains over three hundred collections from outstanding playwrights, television and motion picture writers, producers, actors, designers, directors, and production companies. Materials preserved include: historical records and personal papers, twenty thousand motion pictures, television shows, and videotapes; two million still photographs and promotional graphics; and several thousand sound recordings. It is richest in records of the American film industry between 1930 and 1960, American popular theater in the 1940s and 1950s, and American television from the 1940s to the 1970s. The WCFTR’s film collection encompasses a wide variety of American and international cinema. Highlights include 2,000 16mm reference prints of feature films from Warner Brothers, RKO and Monogram Pictures – almost every feature released by these studios between 1931 and 1949; 1500 Vitaphone short subjects and 300 Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons from 1926 to 1949. The Feature Film Database gives information on the features films (title, country of production, production company, director and year), and ArCat is the database of materials in all the archival collections searchable by author, title, subject and keyword. All materials are viewed onsite.

The National Review of Live Art (NRLA) Archive is a video archive containing performances from the NRLA festival from 1986 (the first year film records were kept) to its final year in 2010. Over the thirty years of its existence, the festival became a key event in the experimental arts world, covering dance and theatre as well as multi-media installations and sound and video art. The archive’s content reflects this diversity, covering not only the performances themselves but also discussions and interviews with participating artists. Given the challenging nature of some of the film, the site has a warning that it contains "material of a sexual and violent nature and deal openly with contentious issue" and users must be over the age of 18 to access the material.

Derived in part from the resource known as Artifact, a hub of the Resource Discovery Network (RDN), this excellent guide to websites on the ‘arts and creative industries’, provides helpful but not overwordy site descriptions and useful background material including an artists’ index and news features. NB Intute closed in July 2011 and the site has now been archived. No further resources are being added and no changes are being made to existing content, so the resource will increasingly become less useful and reliable.

The catalogue to the British L:ibrary Sound Archive’s collection of over two and a half million recordings stretching back to the late 19th century is now available online. The catalogue entries are precise, but it is not possible (as yet) to listen the recordings themselves. The seven main subject areas covered by the collection are Classical Music, Drama and Literature, International Music, Jazz, Oral History, Popular Music and Wildlife Sound. The site includes practical information on accessing the recordings, details of BLSA publications, and a valuable page of external links. In May 2009, a Curator for Radio was appointed and since then a new set of web pages relating to radio have been produced.
