This self-styled ‘Robin Hood of the avant-garde’ was established 15 years ago as an archive and distributor of art films and is now partially based in Mexico. The disclaimer tells us: ‘All materials are for non-commercial and / or educational use only.' There is some fascinating and rare work here as well as some genuine obscurities. Along with Tweets and podcasts, the site hosts dozens of films, shorts and features, ranging from early works by the likes of Brian de Palma and Joseph Cornell to more widely-known experimental filmmakers such as Andy Warhol, Jean Cocteau and Steve McQueen. Part of the site is now devoted to electronic music and sound. The website is large and cleanly laid out though the lack of any guided search tools is unfortunate - the legal aspects behind the hosting of much of the content is at best questionable, but its intentions are seemingly honourable.

The Digital Performance Archive (DPA) was an outcome of an Arts and Humanities Research Board (AHRB) funded research project between Nottingham Trent and Salford Universities to undertake a major collection and analysis of digital performance events and developments that occurred during the 1990s. The project was called DRIP-DROP, standing for Digital Resources In Performance Digital Resources On Performance, and it documented developments in the creative use of computer technologies in performance - from live theatre and dance productions that incorporated digital media, to cyberspace interactive dramas and web-casts.
The Drip-Drop project produced an extensive online searchable database of virtual theatre performance and related events from 1990 to 2000, including selected video documentation, images and statements by creators.

The archive offers a complete database and on-line video streaming of all 450 films made by the film department of Arts Council England between 1953 and 1998 and several films produced before 2003 by the dance Department of ACE. The films are available in digital form as the result of a three-year project by the University of Westminster and access is free of charge to UK further and higher education institutions. The collection provides a unique record of British and international post-war art, as well as of documentary film-making in the UK. Many titles in the collection contain rare material about individual artists, while others offer definitive coverage of their subject. Artists featured include Bacon, Spencer, Hockney, Moore and the Young British Artist (YBA) group. Some of the best filmmakers in the UK, including Anthony Minghella and Isaac Julien, were commissioned to make films for the collection. As well as focusing on individual artists, architects, writers and poets, the films document particular art movements that have continued to influence contemporary British Art, such as Surrealism, Dadaism, Futurism and Kinetic art.
