The Italian-language only Archivio Storico includes iinformation on 12,000 editions from some 17 different newsreels that the Istituto and others produced in Italy between 1928 and 1990 as well as several thousand documentaries. The site also includes foreign newsreels made in Germany (some by UFA) as well as 150 hours of material made by the American War Office between 1943 and 1945. Shot lists and running times are provided for all the items, and eventually it plans to hold some 400 hours of video clips as well through Windows Media Player. It is possible to search by name and date or simply by keyword. The site is a little spartan and has only a few active features - the data is presented in good detail however with very detailed shotlists and very thorough credits.

BBC2’s flagship late-night news programme began transmission in January 1980. Always courting controversy, not least for the aggressive interview style of its presenters, it remains one of the most distinguished current affairs programme on British television. The Newsnight homepage on the BBCi website includes a good general overview of the programme’s history, and also includes a number of extended clips from the programme which require RealPlayer to view. Amongst the clips is the notorious grilling that presenter Jeremy Paxman gave to Michael Howard MP in the run-up to the 1997 General Election. The site also includes blogs from Mark Urban, Newsnight’s diplomatic and defence editor, and Paul Mason, the programme’s economics editor.
