The University of Oklahoma’s website contains the catalogue of their Political Communication Center’s archive. The catalogue is split up into alphabetical sections by name of candidate, and holdings for each person are listed. Holdings vary from television and radio commercials to stills and televised debates.
This site advertises itself as the "definitive directory of UK TV advert soundtracks". This comprehensive listing of over 2000 pieces of music used in recent television advertising can be searched chronologically (only as far back as 1996 though), by song title, artist as well as company or specific ad campaign. The site is linked throughout to Amazon.co.uk which often includes thirty-second clips in Real and Windows Media Player formats. There is also a forum. Inactive since November 29 2008.
The Advertising Standards Authority is the independent self-regulatory body set up by the advertising industry to police the rules laid down in the advertising codes. Until November 2004 this only related to print media, but now it also covers TV and radio commercials. These are listed in the site, and details are provided if one wishes to make contact and comment on an advert or advertising campaign. The site also provides a useful set of links to related bodies as well as copies of their adjudication’s.
The Advertising Association is a federation of twenty-six trade bodies and is one of the main representative institutions in the field of advertising in the UK. It provides information on the latest legislation as well as upcoming events and details for students on how to join the industry in addition to a useful page of links to a number of important related organisations.
Part of the Internet Archive, which also covers archived moving images (The Internet Moving Images Archive), audio and software, the Wayback Machine holds cached versions of thousands of websites and billions of pages, allowing users to look at sites that are no longer available or at earlier versions of ones that are still around. An invaluable resource that, due to the gigantic nature of the holdings, is slightly hampered by the fact that no list of the holdings can be easily provided. This means inevitably that correct recall of the URL in question is necessary, or failing that, searching for it on the web first.
