The Engines of Our Ingenuity is an American radio programme telling the story of how our culture is formed by human creativity. The programme web site houses the transcripts for every episode heard since the show’s inception in 1988. Streaming audio is available on each of the posted episodes (using Real). The wide range of subjects over nearly 2,000 episodes include Leon Theremin, the number zero, windmills, the camera obscura, mind reading, mousetraps and paperclips, the Lunar Society, and Food in Early Texas.

Entertaining collection of QuickTime movies from the University of Nebraska, demonstrating basic concepts of physics that play a role in American Football. Dr. Tim Gay talks about Inertia, Vectors, Kinematics, Air Resistance and Newtonian Laws, with contributions from football players and clips from actual games. The one-minute sequence are apparently also shown on screens around the Huskers football team stadium.

This accompanies a series of broadcasts on American public radio which collected many of the surviving audio recordings of ex-slaves which were made in the 1920s and 1930s throughout the United States. Put together by the Smithsonian Institute and supporting the 1998 book of the same name. The audiovisual part of the website is divided into five sections which looks at slavery in general, the work and home life of slaves and the adjustment to freedom and requires Real Audio to work, which can create some problems for Mac users - the site does offer help on how to overcome it however.

Sites are given peer reviews (i.e. by users), and are categorised under Arts, Business, Education, Humanities, Mathematics, Science and Technology and Social Sciences. Tracing moving image materials is best done by using the search term ‘video’ under the subject-specific ‘disicipline community’ option - a number of these sites can also be found on the Moving Image Gateway.

The European Union’s TV news agency Europe by Satellite (EbS) is a service providing coverage of EU affairs for TV and radio professionals. The programmes are available live in German, French and English and the archive section allows access in several more languages. An effective back-up service is also available in the web archive, which allows emergency meetings and press conferences to be retransmitted. Additional information includes detailed schedules of political broadcasts and re-transmissions. This content is available for on-demand viewing (Real and Flash) and most of it also for download in a variety of bandwidths. Links to other websites, and information on use and access are also provided in a comprehensive and easy to understand manner. A huge advantage of this website is that material may be used free of charge and free of rights for educational purposes.

The South West Film and Television Archive (SWFTA) is the regional film archive for the South West of England. Established in 1993, it is one of the largest regional film archives in the UK and holds the Westward Television and TSW (Television South West) independent television collections as well as a significant number of donated film collections, both amateur and professional. The Archive is able to sell copies of some of its holdings on DVD. The SWFTA is a member of Film Archives UK.

Founded in 1983, the CMA is a non-profit making organisation, supporting Community Radio and Television and community-based Internet projects. It represents Community Media to Government, industry and regulatory bodies. Much of the CMA’s work has a strategic emphasis and in 2004 the organisation was heavily involved in liaison with Government regarding recent actual and proposed legislation on Community Radio, Public Service Broadcasting, BBC Charter Review, Local and Community Television, the Broadcasting Code, Media Literacy, Digital Switchover, the Community Media Fund and Spectrum allocation. There are links to a selection of radio stations around the country that allow a variety of sounds, styles and content from across the sector to be sampled.
