This unofficial multimedia online archive features over 10,000 hours of oral arguments (in audio format) from the US Supreme Court, dating back to 1955. The project was started in 1997 by Jerry Goldman, a professor at the Chicago-Kent College of Law. The site’s current incarnation features text, images, video and audio, all designed to clarify and explain the often convoluted and difficult to follow sessions of the court and is an invaluable resource for anyone with an interest in the American legal system.

Compelling podcast series which tells the stories of people who have been affected by crime, from the point of view of the perpetrators, the victims and people caught in the middle. Approaching the subject from the human interest angle and covering stories from the present day as well as historical crimes, the podcast would be of interest to students of law, criminology or the history of crime. Each episode is tightly-edited, self-contained and told without recourse to sensationalism.

This podcast is about the laws of the United Kingdom; how they were made, what they do and how they can be understood and interpreted. It features contributions from expert researchers and academics from QMUL’s School of Law. The first episode focuses on European Union law. Episode two, which was made before the results of the 2016 EU referendum looks at Brexit and how the country would extricate itself from the European Union law system. The verdict: ‘It’s going to be a legal mess, which will take a lot of time to untangle’.

Excellent podcast presented by Benjamin Knight and Kirstin Beswick, two barrister members of Central Chambers in Manchester, who discuss the latest legal rulings, developments and news with their guests. The new format (as of 2016) features episodes which are around 30 minutes long. The previous more discursive version (often over an hour long) is still available on the previous site here. A very useful resource for law students.

Academics from the University of Edinburgh discuss a theme of contemporary relevance in this monthly podcast. The first episode saw professors from the schools of law, economics and history discuss the issues associated with Scottish independence before the 2014 referendum. Other podcasts have more of a magazine format, covering several topics, but the general focus is on current political, economic and social issues, including migration within the EU, the rise of Russian nationalism, and women’s rights, as well as more local issues, such as Scottish oral history and the negative effects of Edinburgh’s self-image. The podcast is also available on iTunes.
