A celebration of the work, legacy and influence of legendary visual effects creator and filmmaker Ray Harryhausen (1920-2013). The podcast, now on its 28th episode, is part of The Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, which Harryhausen set up in 1986 to ensure his body of work was preserved as a coherent collection, with educational rather than simply entertainment value. The first episode includes interview clips with Harryhausen himself; other episodes are devoted to specific films such as One Million Years BC (1966), Clash of the Titans (1981), Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977) and 20 Million Miles to Earth (1957).

The website includes a very useful section- Podcast Queue- which lists the books and films being considered for an episode as well as titles already dealt with. There is also an Archive organised chronologically by year, and links to related resources. Recent episodes include Netflix’s Love, Death and Robots (2019), The Wandering Earth (2019), The Seventh Victim (1943) and Millennium (1989).

The outcome of a research project led by the University of Warwick, this site investigates the history of cinematic projection, the role and image of the cinema projectionist, and the contemporary expansion of projected images and events outside the cinema. It uses a mixture of methods, including oral history, archive research, interviews, textual analysis, photographs and short films to document and explore film projection and the digital transformations of the twenty-first century. The site is organised into four main categories: Virtual Projection Box, which enables the interactive exploration of a projection room; Changing Technology-Changing Work, a tour showing the ways in which technological developments have changed the projectionist’s job; Exploring the Box, which highlights the key features of a 1910s projection room; Women in the Box, about the work of women projectionists across the history of cinema. Highlights include: a film demonstrating the flammability of different types of film stock; an audio clip about adapting to digital projection technologies, and a short news item depicting a ‘projectionette’ showing films for a wartime audience.

What is a feminist? This site presents an extensive response to that question in the form of a well-curated oral history archive of the lives of British feminists. The fruit of a Leverhulme funded research initiative, the project’s researchers interviewed 60 feminists who were active in the Women’s Liberation movement in the UK in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

The site features interviews with women arranged around a number of themes, including Activism, Equality and Work, Education, Politics and Legislation, Race, Place and Nation, Sex, Love and Friendship, Bodies, minds and spirits, Family and Children, Changing Cultures and the Arts and Who we Were and Who we Are. The audio clips on this site have been extracted from longer interviews which are available in their entirety at the British Library.

Other resources on the site include Biographies page with profiles of prominent members of the British feminist movement, including academics, writers and broadcasters such as Beatrix Campbell, Sheila Rowbotham and Jenni Murray. An interactive Timeline begins in 1961 and charts the significant social and political events (and legislation) of the times alongside landmark episodes in the women’s movement. The material on this site is a fraction of what was recorded for the project: much more is available at the British Library.
