This amusing and exceptionally well-informed resource is the brainchild of director and movie buff Joe Dante. It brings together classic and not-so-classic film trailers and then provides introductions and audio commentaries for them from a wide variety of film industry professionals including such notable movie makers as Dante himself, Edgar Wright, John Landis, Guillermo del Toro, Mary Lambert, John Sayles and Roger Corman, amongst others. The site can be searched by film title, genre, decade and the person making the commentary. The range of films is very broad so that one can hear some straightforward praise as when director John Badham discusses the trailer for To Kill a Mockingbird, which co-starred his sister Mary, and make-up guru Rick Baker comments on the biopic of his hero Lon Chaney, but there are also such unlikely juxtapositions as Neil Labute discussing British technicolor classic, Black Narcissus.

This large and developing resource is part of the BBC Academy, which exists in its own words to put, ‘training and development at the heart of the BBC and also works with the wider broadcast industry, equipping people with skills they need for a lifetime of employability in the ever-changing media landscape.' It also provides courses, some in partnership with Creative Skillset (see separate entry). The site, currently in beta test mode, aims to provide a guide to training resources for those interested in a career in the media, specifically broadcast radio and television. This includes dozens of interviews with industry professionals discussing their areas of expertise. The site is organised as a guide to a wide variety of professional activities, from the lofty heights of director and executive producer to more artisanal jobs such as make-up designer and sound designer. Most of the videos are about 2 to 3 minutes in length and provide succinct profiles of those working in core behind-the-scenes production jobs. The emphasis is split fairly evenly between TV and Radio though there is also a new section devoted to online production that will be expanding. See also the separate entry under BBC College of Journalism. Along with job descriptions there are also practical tips on a broad range of subjects, from how best to shoot and night or to record a ‘vox pops’ to managing the relationship between a presenter and the producer.
