This audio and video section is part of a larger, interactive website originally set up to accompany the Taking Liberties exhibition on the 900-year struggle for Britains freedoms and rights, held at the British Library in 2008-2009. Although the exhibition is now over, the collection of podcasts, interviews, videos and curator talks will remain available online. A virtual curator presents a series of short videos on key aspects of the Magna Carta, and there are audio recordings of talks given during the exhibition including Professor A.C Grayling on British ‘liberty; Trevor Phillips on equality and human rights in modern Britain; Ken Livingstone in a panel debate about fundamental freedoms in a world of climate change; Nigel Sadler on the Minutes of the Committee for Abolition of the Slave Trade; Polly Toynbee chairing a debate on women’s rights in the 21st century; ; Professor Nicholas Vincent on the Magna Carta; Shami Chakrabarti of Liberty on the dangers of quick-fix legislation; as well as talks on the Human Rights Act 1998, The Wolfenden Report and Paine’s Rights of Man.
