Learning on Screen Awards 2010 Categories
General Education and Learning Resource Awards
This category is for content delivered as general factual and documentary production that is judged to be valuable for use in learning either formally or informally. Such content may be broad and intended to enrich learner understanding – particularly in the context of life-long learning. Alternatively it might be content suitable for exploration and use by those with a specialist interest or ‘need to know’.
Within this category content produced for delivery via the following platforms will be accepted and judged together:
- Broadcasts
- Streamed internet resources
- Podcasts or Vodcasts
- Intranet or closed online delivery (e.g. VLE)
- Physical media (e.g. DVD, CD)
A number of awards will be made, according to jury decisions, to reward design innovation, authoring, production and use.
Courseware and Curriculum-Related Content Awards
This category is intended for content created for use among specific target groups of students who need to obtain particular knowledge and skills or who are at a specific stage in a course of learning. It may be aimed at target audiences ranging from adult students in university settings to school pupils or trainees in any field.
Within this category content produced for delivery via the following platforms will be accepted:
- Broadcast
- Streamed internet resources
- Podcasts or Vodcasts
- Intranet or closed online delivery (e.g. VLE)
- Physical media (e.g. DVD, CD)
Student Production Awards
These awards are for outstanding productions, on any theme, made by students as part of a course or training activity. The productions offered may be linear drama, non-fiction, advertising or animation films – or they may be non-linear interactive works of any sort. Where there are specific educational objectives in the content, such entries will also qualify to be considered in other award categories.
Student entries will be judged in three levels:
- Further Education work (e.g. ‘A’ Level; National Diplomas, GNVQs)
- Undergraduate work (e.g. Higher National Diplomas and first Degrees)
- Postgraduate work
Premier Award
The jury may, at its discretion, award an outstanding production selected from all entries to the scheme.
Special Jury Awards
The judges may make a special award to an organisation, programme or interactive production deserving of special recognition and not necessarily cited under another category.
