Experiment to Eclipse All Others, An

Synopsis
In this short documentary Richard Middlemiss, winner of the 2017 Isambard Kingdom Brunel Award Lecture for Engineering, Technology and Industry, attempts to re-create the experiment that gave the first evidence for Einstein’s theory of general relativity. The original experiment was conducted in 1919 by Arthur Eddington. To repeat it, Middlemiss travels to the Faroe Islands to observe a fleeting astronomic event - a total solar eclipse. Does modern technology make this experiment easier? Does the Faoroese weather allow the experiment to be carried out at all? [19 minutes]
