Gazwrx: The Films of Jeff Keen

Synopsis
Compilation of experimental filmmaker Jeff Keen’s work, spanning his forty year career from his beatnik films of the 60s to the multiple screen videos of the 1990s. Keen produced a body of work using techniques which encompassed animation, innovative use of found footage, collage and structural film techniques, such as strobing and manipulating and degrading the surface of the film itself. This collection draws together over forty films by Keen who was Britain’s first avant-garde filmmaker and whose DIY, low-budget aesthetic and imaginative and radical approach to his art has ensured that his films have outlived the various countercultural scenes in which they thrived. DVD extras include a new filmed interview with Jeff Keen; ART FLIES FREE, an experimental documentary by Ian Helliwell; JEFF KEEN’S FILMS (1983) - a documentary with interview; a 96-page booklet featuring paintings, drawings and collages by Jeff Keen, plus film notes and articles by Keen, Tony Rayns, Jack Sargeant and Raymond Durgnat.
