Contemporary Methods and Perspectives

Synopsis
DD307 uses traditional and cutting-edge social psychological theories to explore some of the most exciting and pressing issues we face in our complex, fast changing world. Topics include emotions, conflict, relationships, the body, personality, prejudice and group processes.

This first DVD video introduces the main themes and perspectives and is divided into sections. Following a short opening, the first section entitled ‘Interrogating Knowledge’ leads to several sub-sections which focus on the interrogative themes and illustrate in different ways how these themes can be applied in the context of social psychological research. The second section focuses on the research process. The four perspectives, cognitive social, discursive psychological, phenomenological and social psychoanalytic, are introduced by social psychologists who discuss their research. The final section ‘Definitions’contains summaries of key points about each of the perspectives.

Notes
NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
