Art of Clare Woods, The
- Synopsis
- Clare Woods is one of the most exciting painters working in Britain today. Her sensuous and sumptuous work, often achieved on a spectacular scale, both extends the tradition of landscape painting and engages with contemporary concerns of unease, of the eerie and of disorientation. This film was shot over six years and offers a personal encounter with the artist and her work. It follows the preparations for a major show at The Hepworth Wakefield as well as the creation of a mammoth Olympic Legacy mural on the East London site of the 2012 games.
Clare Woods’ art is explored within a framework of ideas suggested by British modernism and especially by the Neo-Romantic artists of the 1940s. Yet her practice is also revealed as dealing very directly with the past in the present, and with the place of art and culture in the lives of us all. - Series
