Rosencrantz and Guildenstern

Synopsis
A television adaptation of W.S. Gilbert’s 1891 burlesque. The script parodies the style of Shakespearean performance in the 1890s and centres on Claudius’ secret - that in his youth he was the author of a bad play, now forbidden by all to mention. To get out of an engagement with the prince and marry her true love Rosencrantz. Ophelia engineers Hamlet into staging the banned play, resulting in his exile to England. With Leonard Sachs as Rosencrantz and Erik Chitty as Guildenstern. [with acknowledgment to Susanne Greenhalgh for providing the synopsis].
