Micro Debt, The

Synopsis
A critical investigation into the dark side of microcredit, for decades hailed as the key to eradicating poverty in developing countries. However, interest rates from 30 to 200% often make it impossible to pay back the loans and the poor are often put under extreme pressure when they begin to default. This documentary investigates the problem in Mexico, India and Bangladesh. It exposes the bank for the poor, Gameen Bank, and the micro finance masterminds that include the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mr. Muhammad Yunus.
