Falstaff: The Bad Man we All Need

Synopsis
Radio programme. Paul Allen, who is writing a book about the character, reflects on the fascination of composers and writers with Falstaff. In this illustrated talk which covers composers such as Salierei, Verdi, Vaughan Williams, Elgar as well as writers such as Alan Bennett and Jez Butterworth, Allen argues that Falstaff, is the bad man we all need in order to grow up, to be - in the broadest sense of the word - educated.
