Hope in a Changing Climate

Synopsis
Parts of China’s Loess Plateau, the highland area spanning some 640,000 square km in the north of the country, faced environmental ruin as over-farming took its toll on the ecosystem. In this film environmental filmmaker and ecological field researcher John D. Liu looks at how local people have turned the situation around in 15 years, transforming a barren wasteland into a life-sustaining environment. He talks to scientists and local people about changing farming practices and travels to Rwanda and Ethiopia to see the impact similar projects are having on equally challenging areas of environmental devastation.

Produced by the Environmental Education Media Project (EEMP), an organisation dedicated to placing ecosystem restoration at the centre of global discussions on climate change, poverty and sustainable agriculture. in conjunction with the Open University. Screened at the COP 15 climate change summit in Copenhagen from 7 - 18 December 2009.
