Modern Marvels - Engineering Disasters

Synopsis
Throughout history some of mankind’s proudest moments have come at the hands of its engineers. But error is inevitable in all human endeavours and when the undertakings are engineering feats of enormous proportions, the smallest mistakes may have devastating consequences. An engineering disaster involving a passenger jet can jeopardise hundreds of innocent people. And if a nuclear or chemical plant is involved, it can mean death for thousands. For the first time in history, engineers now have the power to wipe out entire cities, by mistake.

This 5-DVD set contains 18 separate History Channel programmes dramatising forty of the world’s most notorious engineering failures, from the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina to the sinking of an off-shore oilrig, using state-of-the-art special effects to investigate not only what went wrong, but what can be learned from these spectacular disasters. Each episode uses a combination of real-life footage and state-of-the-art special effects to recreate enormous disasters. Includes interviews with engineers and historians.
