Patient Guide to Deep Vein Thrombosis, A

Synopsis
An information film for patients who have, or are suspected of having, a DVT. It follows a patient’s progress through the diagnostic process, as well as initial treatment, aftercare, and the recommendation of changes to lifestyle that can reduce the risk of a further DVT.

In a systematic way, using language the patient can understand, the film explains: * What DVT is; causes; symptoms and signs; diagnosis of DVT; nticoagulant treatment; side-effects of medication; non-drug treatment; exercise and rest; reducing the risk of another DVT. The necessity of seeking medical advice in specific situations is stressed throughout — this film is an aid to, not a replacement for, medical care. It is intended to be viewed either in a clinical situation, under the supervision of clinical staff, or in the patient’s home.
