One, Two, Buckle My Shoe

Synopsis
Television detective series based on Agatha Christie’s stories featuring the Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot. The story concerns a powerful financier who commits bigamy and, together with his actress first wife, commits a succession of murders to conceal the fact , with the wife disguising herself as several women. The television version begins in India in 1921 with the closing moments of a performance of Much Ado About Nothing, emphasising mask and Beatrice’s lines about being deceived by Hero, Margaret and Ursula. At the close, as Poirot sums up, there is a flashback to the performance, this time stressing Hero’s lines ‘And when I lived, I was your other wife/And when you loved, you were my other husband’ (V,iv, 60-61).
