Museum of Life

Synopsis
Presented by Jimmy Doherty, Museum Of Life is a story of mysteries, dinosaurs, diamonds and audacious attempts to hold back extinction.

The Natural History Museum attracts nearly 4 million visitors every year, has 8000 visiting scientists, 70 million specimens, 350 resident experts and contains examples of 90% of the world’s known natural diversity. It has a world wide reputation that is genuinely second to none.

As a young man, Jimmy Doherty worked as a volunteer at London’s Natural History Museum. Now he returns to join the scientists to try to understand the complexities and resolve some of the problems of the natural world. He is joined by engineer Kate Bellingham (Tomorrow’s World), doctor of tropical medicine Chris van Tulleken (Medicine Men), environmental scientist Liz Bonnin (Bang Goes the Theory) and zoologist Mark Carwardine (Last Chance to See).

As BBC television cameras are granted unprecedented access to the Natural History Museum, vaults are opened, stories unfold and the great discoveries taking place are revealed. This enthralling series embraces all of the extraordinary work of the Natural History Museum - both front of house, behind the scenes and out in the field. Shot in the museum and locations all over the UK and around the world, Jimmy traces the dramatic, pioneering and often surprising scientific work of a much-loved institution.
