Synopsis
An adaptation by Alexander Korda of the Oscar Wilde play. Sir Robert Chiltern, a prospective Cabinet minister, discovers that his career may be in jeopardy due to the surprising and unwelcomed appearance of adventuress Mrs. Cheveley (Paulette Goddard). She attempts to enlist Sir Robert’s help in a shady Argentinean canal scheme. Her methods turn to blackmailing as Sir Robert indignantly refuses. Now the race is on for Sir Robert to come up with a solution to this dilemma as he cannot allow Mrs. Cheveley to reveal his secret past dealings...
