Synopsis

A recently widowed aristocrat Lady Helen Franklin (Sarah Miles), shattered by her husband’s death, takes to a sanatorium to get her feet again. On her discharge she strikes up a hesitant relationship with her driver (Robert Shaw). A passionate and sensitive film that captures the intricacies of the British class system in the early 1920s, from the book by L P Hartley.
