Research in Context

Synopsis
This "Short Cuts" package consists of a number of short video programmes designed to give teachers the flexibility to integrate illustrative video material into their lessons in whatever way they choose. This compact DVD features up to date expert analysis and reinforcing graphics to bring five major research topics to life.
1) How science works - Uses Piaget’s conservation experiment and Donaldson & McGarrigle’s critique to illustrate the hypothetical-deductive model and how science changes and develops.
2) Descriptive statistics - A record producer looking to sign a new band and an eductional psychologist using IQ tests are used to show how statistics should be analysed and how we can draw conclusions from them.
3) Data presentation - A psychologist is studying lonely hearts dating, but how does she match data and presentation? Here different types of data meet their pie chart, line graph, scatter graph and bar chart partners.
4) Statistical anaylsis - Memory tests are used to give a clear visual representation of nominal, original and interval data, and how psychologists find out if their results are statistically significant
5) Data interpretation - A study measuring levels of aggression is used to illustrate data interpretation with tests of difference and data evaluation.
