Vertigo

Synopsis
Alfred Hitchcock’s dream-like story of doomed love, mental breakdown, phobia and doppelgängers stars James Stewart as a detective who suffers from a fear of heights. Hired to protect the wife of an old friend, he suffers a mental breakdown after she dies and he is blamed for her suicide. With its romantic images of San Francisco and a memorable, Wagnerian music score by Bernard Herrmann, this is one of the director’s most critically acclaimed films.
Vertigo displaced CITIZEN KANE from the top of Sight & Sound magazine’s 2012 poll of the greatest movies ever made (The Guardian, 2019).
