Science on Film Project

Synopsis
The Science on Film initiative, run by the Wellcome Trust and the Documentary Filmmakers Group, was a unique opportunity for film-makers and biomedical scientists to collaborate on an intensive film production and training scheme taught by leading broadcast professionals and scientists. A total of 16 applicants were chosen to participate in a six-day training programme, which included seminars, script development workshops and intensive hands-on training in the documentary production process. The eight film-makers and eight scientists then worked in partnerships to plan, shoot and edit short films inspired by science.

The eight resulting short films, covering a diverse range of topics, can be viewed on the Wellcome website. Individual titles are: FIRST BLOOD by Tom Mustill and Sarah Main (7 mins); BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS by Khaldoon Ahmed and James Logan (3 mins); OVER MY LEFT SHOULDER by Oonagh Kearney and Adil Akram (6 mins); GINGER by Nick Rutter and Dr Helen Cooper (6 mins; BLOOD SAMPLE by Steve Jackman and Bala Sirigireddy (4 mins); THE GOOD HEART ATTACK by Uli Hesse and Dr Sean Davidson (6 mins); LIFE SUPPORT by Dr Barry J Gibb and Dr Emma Pilgrim (4 mins); SOUND WAVES by Sasha Andrews and Jeanne Guiraud (6 mins).
