Discovering the Human Brain: New Pathways to Neuroscience
- Synopsis
- Using graphics and animations, this DVD reviews the gross anatomy of the brain and the actions of its neurons. It illustrates the development of neuroscience, from its reliance on information from brain injuries and autopsies, through to new insights that have been discovered with electronic microscopes, EEG equipment, MRI machines and PET scans. Shows examples of actual research at the Brain Research Center at UCLA using current technology are clearly presented, including a study on the role of mirror neurons in autism and the mapping of a multi lingual patient’s language areas prior to surgery on a brain tumour.
The film is divided into three sections: Early Observations (which looks at the history of neuroscience); Microscopic and Electronic Views; Imaging Techniques. - Series
